Councilwoman Hopes to Reverse Homeless Shelter Budget Cuts

A San Diego city council member wants the city's mayor to change his mind about city funding for a winter homeless shelter.   On Wednesday, Jerry Sanders used his line item veto to trim $465,000 out of his budget. That money was to be used for the shelter program.

Council member Donna Frye wants him to reconsider, and restore the funding.

Frye :Use that money as our commitment to other members of the community, and specifically in the philanthropic community, to use that as a matching fund.

Frye says she'll ask the council to override the mayor's decision, if he doesn't voluntarily restore the money. She only needs five of the council's eight votes to do that.
