SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A federal judge has delayed the trial of a New York mortgage banker charged in the corruption case against former San Diego Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham.
Lawyers for John Michael say their client has been diagnosed with viral meningitis. U.S. District Judge Larry Burns postponed his trial indefinitely.
Michael has pleaded not guilty to obstructing justice and making unlawful monetary transactions on Cunningham's behalf.
Co-defendant Brent Wilkes' trial is set to being later this week. The Poway-based defense contractor has pleaded not guilty to giving Cunningham more than $700,000 in cash and perks in exchange for millions in government contracts.
Cunningham pleaded guilty last year and is serving more than eight years in federal prison.
