The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded over $6 million to individuals in San Diego as a result of the wildfires. Today FEMA held a meeting in San Diego for local government agencies that incurred costs fighting the fires. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.
San Diego is eligible for reimbursement for fire damages to public resources. Over 300 people from public agencies showed up to the FEMA meeting to find out how to claim.
San Diego County Coordinator of Emergency Services Ron Lane says the county lost a few park outbuildings and structures at the San Pasqual Academy, and fighting the fire, plus the evacuations cost county departments around $10 million.
Lane : The standard practice is that FEMA will cover 75 percent, the State of California will cover 75 percent of the remaining 25 percent and then county or local government will pick up the remaining 6 or 7 percent.
Lane says FEMA public assistance reimbursement may take years to come through. He says the final installment of reimbursement for the 2003 wildfires arrived earlier this year.
