Tom Fudge : The United States is closing in on 4,000 fatalities that members of our military have suffered in the war and occupation of Iraq. Death number 4,000, which will surely arrive soon, will be a new milestone in America's involvement in the country, but this week marks another milestone. It's been five years since the invasion began. In fact, tomorrow is the day of the anniversary.
The effects of this war have not been felt by all Americans. The ones who have really felt it, of course, are the families of the military. Not just those who have seen their spouses or kids die, but also those who've felt the keen hardship of separation. The war in Iraq has resulted in very frequent deployments of military members. One of the local families that have had to deal with that is the Ashleys, who live in Tierrasanta.
