Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain was in Chula Vista today speaking to military families at the Veterans of Foreign Wars . It's McCain's first trip to California since locking up the GOP nomination. Reporter David Nogueras was there.
Senator McCain came to the VFW from a fundraising event in La Jolla, but McCain made it clear he's not just in California to raise money. The Senator is making a play for the state's 55 electoral votes this November.
A republican presidential candidate hasn't won in California since 1988 -- a fact that McCain said he was painfully aware of.
Still, McCain maintained he could be competitive on issues that matter to Californians, including the environment and climate change.
McCain : There's a broad variety of issues that I believe that I can convince the people of California that I'm deserving in their support and I will go everywhere in this state, everywhere. And I look forward to it.
McCain also visits Orange County and Los Angeles this week to meet with business leaders and deliver a speech on foreign policy.
