Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today ordered another 200 National Guard troops to help fight wildfires burning throughout the state. It's the second time this week he's called on the Guard for reinforcements. Steve Milne reports.
Just Tuesday, Schwarzenegger sent 200 National Guard soldiers to the fire lines to help more than 20,000 firefighters. Standing next to California National Guard General William Wade at a training facility in Sacramento, Schwarzenegger said the firefighters are overwhelmed.
Schwarzenegger: Fires are still burning and our firefighters are exhausted. They're burned out. So this is why I asked General Wade for additional manpower and he did not hesitate.
The sate Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says more than 300 wildfires continue to burn throughout the state…most of them ignited by lightning. So far, the fires have scorched nearly 800 square miles and destroyed more than 60 structures.
In Sacramento, I'm Steve Milne.
