A strong Pacific storm moving through northern and central California will bring gusty winds, high surf and light rainfall to San Diego County beginning tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm will generate strong rip currents and breakers near 10 feet high to San Diego County’s west-facing beaches through Friday, according to a NWS advisory.
This is the West Coast's first major October storm in more than 45 years, says NWS meteorologist Dave Bruno. October is usually notorious for hot temperatures and strong Santa Ana winds, he says.
People living farther north, near burn areas from the Station Fire in Angeles National Forest and in Santa Barbara County have been warned to brace for possible flows of mud, ash and debris with rainfall of up to 6 inches.
Temperatures in San Diego County are forecast to be in the mid-60s today and Wednesday, rising sharply beginning Thursday.
