World Cup fever has hit Tijuana. City hall and schools have made special accommodations so people don't stay home to nurse their so-called "soccer sickness."
Tijuana's City Hall has set up a giant screen so employees can watch World Cup games at work.
Many schools have brought in televisions so students don't miss class.
Some have also allowed students to dispense with their uniforms to wear Mexico's soccer jersey.
Thousands of people gathered in downtown Tijuana to watch Mexico kick off the World Cup against South Africa.
Mexico and South Africa tied at one to one.
Angel Gomez, who's Tijuana assistant city clerk, said hundreds more packed City Hall at 7 a.m. There were free tamales and coffee for breakfast.
"It helped avoid absenteeism. And people who had business at City Hall could watch, eat, and take care of what they needed to."
Gomez said he and his family took a photo of themselves in their green Mexico jerseys last night.
He said he dropped his kids off at school early to they could watch the game.
Mexico plays France on Thursday.
