High Tides And Sea Level Rise In San Diego
Some of the highest tides of the year are expected along San Diego's coast this week. San Diego environmental groups plan to photograph high water marks. It's part of a statewide effort related to sea level rise.

San Diego Coastkeeper is working with three other organizations to take pictures around San Diego Bay from Wednesday through Friday at times when the tides are expected to be especially high.

Coastkeeper Staff Scientist Jen Kovecses says volunteers will capture images to help state and local planners visualize the predicted effects of rising sea levels along San Diego waterways.

"Having photos of the ocean side and bay side of San Diego Bay and areas of key vulnerabilities will be really useful for helping us think through the things that we need to work on for developing appropriate adaptation strategies," said Kovecses.

She said homes, businesses, harbors and beaches in San Diego are among the areas especially vulnerable to the potential effects of sea level rise.

Kovecses said you can help the effort, too, by taking photos of areas prone to flooding such as seawalls, jetties and bridge supports.
