The nation's longest-serving law school dean announced today he will step down from his post at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego's East Village next June.
Rudy Hasl, who is also president of TJSL, has spent 32 years at four law schools. Besides TJSL, he has worked at Saint Louis University, St. John's University and Seattle University.
"I have been blessed with challenging opportunities at each of the schools I have served as dean,'' Hasl said.
He said a dean has the chance to create "magical moments'' in the lives of others, and he will relish those memories.
The TJSL Board of Trustees has formed a search committee to identify candidates for the dean and president positions.
Since Hasl became dean in 2005, the school has moved from Old Town to its East Village high-rise, created centers for small business law and sports law, and established study-abroad programs in China and France. He is also credited with increasing diversity among students, faculty and staff.
Hasl was recently appointed to a three-year term on an American Association of Law Schools committee on recruiting and retaining minority students and faculty.
