California Poison Control Centers Warn Consumers Of Over-The-Counter Drug Recall

California Poison Control Centers Warn Consumers Of Over-The-Counter Drug Recall
The maker of Bufferin, Excedrin, NoDoz, and Gas-X is issuing a nationwide recall.

California's poison control centers are trying to spread the word about a recall of a number of popular over-the-counter drugs. The maker of Excedrin, and NoDoz says bottles may contain tablets of other drugs.

Novartis Consumer Health's recall applies to Excedrin, Bufferin, NoDoz, and Gas-X. The company says the bottles could contain different dosages of the actual drug, or other products.

Dr. Richard Clark is medical director of the San Diego branch of the California Poison Control Center. He warned people with allergies could be at risk.

"For instance," Clark said, "you're allergic to aspirin, and that's in the bottle that you're taking. You could have an allergic reaction to it that sometime can send you to the emergency room, or sometimes can be fatal."

Clark said people who are on multiple medications could also have a bad reaction if they take something they shouldn't.

The recall applies to products with expiration dates of December 2014 or earlier.
