A series of bombings and mortar attacks in Baghdad's Sadr City left at least 130 Iraqis dead and more than 200 others wounded.
The day's violence included an assault on Iraq's Health Ministry, which is controlled by supporters of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
After nightfall, the Iraqi government declared a total curfew in Baghdad until further notice.
