84th Annual Academy Award Rundown

Oscar Preview
>Guests: Beth Accomando, author of the blog Cinema Junkie and KPBS arts reporter Anders Wright, film critic at San Diego CityBeat and president of the San Diego FIlm Critics Society

Hollywood's biggest night is coming up on Sunday. It's the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Will a silent film walk away with gold? Will Scorsese or Spielberg add another Oscar to their mantels? Will Billy Crystal be able to keep everyone awake for three hours? Let's talk Oscars.

Somewhere in between the gorgeous gowns, embarrassing production numbers and Angelina Jolie sightings, a few lucky people will actually take home Academy Awards.

One thing the studios always hope for is that an Oscar nomination will extend a film's life at the box office or boost DVD sales. AMC will be bringing back all nine of the best picture nominees for a marathon screening this weekend if you want to make sure to catch up on everything.

Landmark Theaters is your next best bet for catching nominated films. The Ken Cinema is the only place to see the nominated live action and animated shorts, a category that is good to check out if you are playing in any workplace Oscar pools. Landmark is also showing the multi-nominated "The Descendants," as well as best acting nominees Glenn Close and Janet McTeer in "Albert Nobbs," Michelle WIlliams in "My Week with Marilyn" and Gary Oldman in "Tinker, Tailer, Soldier, Spy." On Friday, "Chico and Rita," nominated for best feature length animated film, opens at Landmark.

Also there are limited screenings of the Wim Wenders' dance documentary in 3D and "Pina" at AMC Fashion Valley and United Artists Horton Plaza.

You can get a list of the nominees as well as Oscar trivia from the Oscar website.

You can get a printable Oscar ballot here.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards coverage begins this Sunday at 4 p.m. on ABC with the red carpet, and the awards at 5 p.m. One of the places you can watch the awards is at Cinema Under the Stars.
