First it was Lady Gaga, the flamboyant, sometimes bizarre but wildly popular performer who seemingly suddenly become a political activist with her recent speeches in fervent support of the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," which prohibits members of the military from being openly gay or lesbian.
Now it's the Jonas Brothers, the Disney-created pop-rock sensation, who surprisingly but to their credit took to Youtube this weekend to pay tribute to John Lennon on what would have been the late Beatle's 70th birthday (video below). Sitting with his brothers on a couch, Nick Jonas, who to date has been about as politically active as, well, Ashley Tisdale, thanked Lennon and called for peace in this world.
"We grew up listening to the Beatles in our home, John Lennon specifically," said Nick. "And his words, and his lyrics, and his music spoke to many generations of people and continue to. It's his birthday, 70th birthday, so happy birthday, John. Thanks for the memories. Thanks for the music. And thanks for showing the world that it's time to come together and live in peace. You're the man."
Hey, at least maybe now my 10-year-old daughter will truly appreciate John Lennon. What's next, Justin Bieber protesting against drone attacks in Pakistan?
