The Pentagon released the name today of a 31-year-old Camp Pendleton-based Marine who was fatally wounded in combat in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Jason D. Peto, 31, of Vancouver, Wash., died Tuesday from wounds he had suffered in Helmand Province on Nov. 24, according to the Department of Defense.
He was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger praised Peto as "a committed Marine who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country."
Flags at the state Capitol will be lowered to half-staff in Peto's honor.
