Active duty troops who are also students at California public universities would get their money back if they're deployed and must drop out, under a new bill making its way through the legislature. The Associated Press reports that the bill would require the University of California, California State University, and state community colleges to refund money to student servicemembers who have already paid for classes, but must drop out for deployment after their schools' class withdrawal deadline.
Bill author Assemblyman Steve Knight, an Army veteran, says of his legislation:
The State Assembly unanimously passed the bill and sent it to the Senate, where it will face a series of legislative hurdles before it can land on the governor's desk.
