The new blog CaptainMolly.com takes a refreshing twist on military blogs - it's written by women in the service, for women in the service. The blog is honest, irreverent, and sometimes hilarious.
The bloggers for CaptainMolly.com are allowed to use pen names so they can express their opinions freely, according to a news release from the blog's parent website Military.com.
Sarah Blansett, editor of CaptainMolly.com, explains the need for the blog this way:
"Women are serving in almost every capacity and their stories and experiences should be shared. Not just with one another, but with the public as well."
Different blog topics on CaptainMolly.com include "Deployment," "Relationships and Family," and for those with a funny bone, "Molly's Follies." One female Sailor shared this story on Molly's Follies:
During an award ceremony I was called up to receive a medal for some work I did on a special project. I was being given this award by a very high ranking official who dropped the award and I bent down to pick it up. A photographer snapped a photo at the exact wrong moment and from the exact wrong angle. The result was a picture that made it seem like I was um…ah…"earning my medal.” I was mortified.
The blog is named after Margaret Cochran Corbin, the first woman to receive a military pension from the U.S. government - a pension she earned fighting in the Revolutionary War.
