Twentynine Palms-based Marine Cpl. Christopher G. Singer, who grew up in Temecula, died Saturday in Afghanistan - according to the Department of Defense. Singer's uncle Steve Welty told the North County Times that his 23-year-old nephew shot while on patrol:
Singer leaves behind his wife Brooke, and 2-year-old daughter Briyana. The family lived for a time at Camp Pendleton while Singer was based there, according to the North County Times. Welty says his nephew left the following message for his wife and child before deploying to Afghanistan:
At the time of his death, Singer was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 7th Regiment based at Twentynine Palms.
According to the Air Force, Cpl. Singer's remains will arrive at Dover Air Force Base this afternoon.
