Two Navy Divers Die During Dive Operation

The Navy reported today that two Sailors from Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 died during a dive operation on Tuesday.

Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 is based at Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek-Fort Story in Virginia Beach.

The incident took place at the pond at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. According to a Navy news release:

One victim was declared deceased at the scene. A second victim was transported to a local medical facility where he was later pronounced dead...

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2 is conducting an investigation into the deaths of the Sailors.
The Associated Press reports this is the second fatal diving accident at Aberdeen Proving Ground pond within the past month.
