A new poll shows one candidate has a widening lead in the race for California Governor.
Democrat Jerry Brown has stretched his lead over Republican Meg Whitman in the race for California Governor, according to a new Field Poll.
The new poll gives Brown a 10-point lead. Voters favor him 49 percent to Whitman’s 39 percent. Mark DiCamillo, with the Field Poll, said doing the survey so close to the election has a big advantage. Many people have already cast their ballots by mail.
“Twenty one percent had already voted at the time of the survey and Brown was leading by seven points among that block so it appears that Whitman starts out from behind as we move to election day,” DiCamillo said.
Just a month ago, Brown and Whitman were in a dead heat. DiCamillo said since then Whitman has lost ground with female, Latino and independent voters.
The survey also finds 51 percent of voters hold a negative opinion of Whitman, up six points from a month ago. Forty seven percent hold a negative opinion of Brown –unchanged from September.
