Both outgoing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and incoming Governor Jerry Brown are focused on the state’s budget mess.
Brown takes over in January and has called a budget forum next week in Sacramento. He’s invited all lawmakers as well as finance officials.
Schwarzenegger will call an emergency budget session on Monday. Spokesman Aaron McLear said the Governor feels a responsibility to address the crisis.
“He believes this is his budget that he signed, it’s out of whack and he ought to work to fix it so hopefully the legislature agrees and has the same desire to try to get something done when we come in on Monday, December 6th," McLear said.
Schwarzenegger will release a budget proposal on Monday. McLear said it’s likely to be heavy on cuts. The state’s facing an estimated $25 billion shortfall over the next year-and-a-half.
