Today Is Last Day To Request Mail Ballot For Primary Election

Voters have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to request a mail ballot from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters for next week's primary election.

The registrar's office is now accepting mail ballot requests by phone, and registered voters can call (858) 565-5800 to get a ballot for the June 7 election.

They can also email or fax a letter to the registrar's office that includes their name, address, name and date of the election, the address where the ballot is to be mailed and a signature. The email address is, and the fax line is (858) 694-2955.

Voters can fill-out an application on the back of their sample ballot or voter information pamphlet, or download one from

The application must be received by the registrar's office by 5 p.m. — a postmark won't suffice.

The registrar's office also said 22 drop-off locations for completed ballots are now available during regular business hours.

"The number of voters who opt to vote by mail continues to rise, and this program helps with the timely return of mail ballots, decreases the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day and expands our services," Registrar Michael Vu said.

Around 900,000 mail ballots were sent out to voters, according to Vu.

He said the sooner that completed ballots are returned, the more can be counted when the polls close at 8 p.m. on June 7.

As an alternative, voters who cannot make it to a polling place on Election Day can cast ballots ahead of time at the registrar's office, 5200 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — weekdays and this weekend — until the polls close.
