Beginning Wednesday, National City residents can report potholes and other neighborhood problems or request city services through a mobile app.

National City Connect uses GPS to recognize an app user's location, provide a menu of common concerns and help users communicate with city departments. The app also accepts photographs.

"This program offers a great way for residents to interact with government, report issues, offer feedback and get responses from the city in an entirely new way," City Manager Leslie Deese said. "Our hope is that residents will become empowered by National City Connect and ultimately feel more responsible for the well-being of their city."

The app — available on iPhone and Android devices — also allows residents to comment on and vote to fix problems submitted by neighbors, receive notifications about issues in their neighborhood and follow the progress of service requests.
