From The Old Globe: The 11th annual Powers New Voices Festival is a three-day event of readings of 10 new American plays by emerging and award-winning playwrights writing for the American theatre today, including new works by San Diegans. The free festival opens on January 12, 2024 and closes on January 14 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Celebrating Community Voices, an evening of short works created by San Diego playwrights through the Globe’s arts engagement programs Community Voices and coLAB, is scheduled on January 12, 2024. The evening will feature readings of six 10-minute plays by local artists MG Green, Marie Vasari Hislop, Eliza Hugee, Ms. JHawk, Brian T. Josten, and Ric Scales. The first of four full-length new American play readings continues on January 13 with Emerson Loses Her “Miand” by Laura Winters, followed by Globe-commissioned Pleasant by Inda Craig-Galván, The Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latinx/Latine Vote by Bernardo Cubría, and Globe-commissioned Empty Ride by Keiko Green. Festival details: The 11th annual Powers New Voices Festival will begin January 12, 2024 and conclude on January 14, 2024. The Festival will take place in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Tickets to all festival readings require reservations and are free. Reservations for Globe subscribers and donors are available beginning Friday, December 15, 2023 at 12:00 noon. Subject to availability, reservations for the general public will be available beginning Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 12:00 noon. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Ticket Services Department at (619) 234-5623. A line for standby seating will form 30 minutes before each performance of the Powers New Voices Festival. The most anticipated installment of San Diego Filipino Cinema’s year-long programming, the San Diego Filipino Film Festival (SDFFF) is back on its third year this fall from October 3-8, 2023. Held during Filipino American History Month in October, SDFFF is SDFC's centerpiece event that aims to raise awareness for Filipino cinema as an important art form and a powerful tool for representation, education, and entertainment. SDFFF will bring San Diego communities together to celebrate diversity, culture, and heritage through cinema with a diverse mix of narrative features, documentaries, and short films. "Asian Persuasion" Directed by Jhett Tolentino: Following a poorly negotiated divorce settlement, Mickey is saddled with alimony payments that he simply cannot afford. To avoid paying, he comes up with a scheme, with the help of his best friend Caspian, to get his ex-wife Avery remarried by creating a fake online dating profile for her. He finds Lee, a potential suitor from the dating site, and coaches Lee on how to make Avery fall for him. Everything goes smoothly until Mickey's plot backfires on him. He rushes to clean up his act to win Avery back. He might be too late.

Annabelle Camp is the Kress Conservation Fellow at Balboa Art Conservation Center and for this Art Break, she will introduce textile conservation as a profession. In her talk, Annabelle will highlight case studies from her work and detailed guidance on how individuals can care for the textiles in their homes to ensure they are preserved for future generations. The talk will be informative for all, especially textile enthusiasts, makers, and collectors! More About Annabelle Camp Annabelle Camp is a textile and organic objects conservator. She has an MS from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation and bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and Art Conservation from the University of Delaware. She has trained in some of the world’s leading textile conservation labs, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Abegg-Stiftung, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Annabelle strives to make community collaboration an integral part of her conservation practice. She has led numerous collaborative programs and repatriation projects and published widely on the value of community engagement in cultural heritage preservation.
