The San Diego Watercolor Society proudly presents “Treasures”, juried by award-winning artist, Suzanne Nicolaison. The water-based media exhibition runs Jan 28 – Feb 24, 2024, at our Gallery in The ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. The stats on King Gizzard’s colorful career are stacking up fast: 25 albums, 13 of them charting in the Top 20 in Australia, where they are now arguably the country’s most innovative, important and productive rock band. International critical acclaim. Headline festival appearances. And perhaps most importantly, a fervent worldwide fanbase who share endless memes, mixes, videos, graphics, theories and discussions, all through which they explore and expand what they have termed “The Gizzverse”. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are: Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/vocals/keyboards), Cook Craig (guitar/vocals), Joey Walker (guitar/vocals), Lucas Harwood (bass) and Michael Cavanagh (drums). This is a rental event of The Rady Shell presented by AEG Goldenvoice. The San Diego Symphony does not appear on this program. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and concert begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Israel-Hamas war has prompted some of the most volatile campus protests in decades. This summer, student organizers are rethinking strategies, as are counter-protesters and college administrators.

This class is taught by women to empower women & non-gender conforming individuals in the woodshop. We cover the properties of wood, machine safety, and techniques on the chop saw, including miters, angled cuts, and how to properly cut joinery for them. Other machines will be introduced as well such as the router, biscuit jointer, and drill press. We’ll show you how to properly sand, and finish your piece with an easy, non-toxic, traditional finish. How to start vermicomposting | • Build or purchase a worm bin • Create bedding with newspaper or coconut coir • Place the bin in a well-ventilated and temperate area • Add your worms Feed your worms fruit and veggie scraps (there are a few exceptions!), give them some grit, like your crushed-up eggshells and they're ready to go! You may want to start out with a small amount of food, since worms can be overwhelmed by too much at once. Harvest the castings and mix them in with soil to benefit both your indoor and outdoor plants. For more than six decades, The Beach Boys’ music has been an indelible part of American history. Their brilliant harmonies conveyed simple truths through sophisticated, pioneering musical arrangements. The Beach Boys transcended their music and have come to represent Californian culture. They provided fans around the world with a passport to experience love, youthful exuberance, and surf culture. Founded in Hawthorne, California in 1961, The Beach Boys were originally comprised of the three teenaged Wilson brothers: Brian, Carl, and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and school friend Al Jardine. The Beach Boys signed with Capitol Records in July 1962 and released their first album, Surfin’ Safari, that same year. The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, with over 100 million records sold worldwide. Between the 1960s and today, the group had over 80 songs chart worldwide, 36 of them in the US Top 40 (the most by a US rock band), and four topping the Billboard Hot 100. Their influence on other artists spans musical genres and movements. Countless artists have cited Pet Sounds as their inspiration for creating their own musical masterpieces. The UC San Diego Qualcomm Institute (QI) presents a performance by QI Composer-in-Residence Miller Puckette, renowned for designing and developing two of the most widespread programs for computer music, and collaborators. The event will feature musical compositions by Puckette and composer and researcher Kerry Hagan, working together as “the Higgs whatever,” and by Puckette and percussionist Irwin as the duo “øther.” Selected pieces include "Who Was That Timbre I Saw You With," which uses Leap controllers to make hand-gesture-to-sound translators.
