For more than six decades, The Beach Boys’ music has been an indelible part of American history. Their brilliant harmonies conveyed simple truths through sophisticated, pioneering musical arrangements. The Beach Boys transcended their music and have come to represent Californian culture. They provided fans around the world with a passport to experience love, youthful exuberance, and surf culture. Founded in Hawthorne, California in 1961, The Beach Boys were originally comprised of the three teenaged Wilson brothers: Brian, Carl, and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and school friend Al Jardine. The Beach Boys signed with Capitol Records in July 1962 and released their first album, Surfin’ Safari, that same year. The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, with over 100 million records sold worldwide. Between the 1960s and today, the group had over 80 songs chart worldwide, 36 of them in the US Top 40 (the most by a US rock band), and four topping the Billboard Hot 100. Their influence on other artists spans musical genres and movements. Countless artists have cited Pet Sounds as their inspiration for creating their own musical masterpieces. Rolling Stone ranked Pet Sounds No. 2 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” and The Beach Boys No. 12 on its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.” Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and recipients of The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award®, The Beach Boys are a beloved American institution that remains iconic around the world. The Beach Boys are led by lead singer and critically acclaimed chief lyricist Mike Love, who, along with longtime member Bruce Johnston, musical director Brian Eichenberger, Christian Love, Tim Bonhomme, Jon Bolton, Keith Hubacher, Randy Leago and John Wedemeyer continue the legacy of the iconic band. How to start vermicomposting | • Build or purchase a worm bin • Create bedding with newspaper or coconut coir • Place the bin in a well-ventilated and temperate area • Add your worms Feed your worms fruit and veggie scraps (there are a few exceptions!), give them some grit, like your crushed-up eggshells and they're ready to go! You may want to start out with a small amount of food, since worms can be overwhelmed by too much at once. Harvest the castings and mix them in with soil to benefit both your indoor and outdoor plants. Her debut EP, "It Had to Be You," recorded straight-to-tape by Bigtone Records, was released in February of 2022 and features incomparable piano legend, Carl Sonny Leyland. Mara's debut single, the forever iconic love song, "IT HAD TO BE YOU," off of her recent Ep release with BIGTONE RECORDS features incomparable roots and blues piano legend Carl Sonny Leyland and can be heard on steady rotation on LA’s premier jazz station, KJAZZ 88.1 FM. Her second single, "DYSTOPIAN BLUES," an original tune, was featured on THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW and performed live on CBS News in 2020. She most recently lent her writing and voice to Brooklyn hip-hop legend AZ’s track, "NEVER ENOUGH" featuring rapper Rick Ross. She is a proud faculty member of Centrum Foundation’s Voice Works program and a past instructor at their Acoustic Blues Seminar in Port Townsend, WA teaching voice masterclasses alongside some of the country's top blues and voice artists. She continues to teach in San Diego and Los Angeles, leading voice workshops and coachings in both cities. After a lifetime in New York, Mara is thrilled to call California home. The UC San Diego Qualcomm Institute (QI) presents a performance by QI Composer-in-Residence Miller Puckette, renowned for designing and developing two of the most widespread programs for computer music, and collaborators. The event will feature musical compositions by Puckette and composer and researcher Kerry Hagan, working together as “the Higgs whatever,” and by Puckette and percussionist Irwin as the duo “øther.” Selected pieces include "Who Was That Timbre I Saw You With," which uses Leap controllers to make hand-gesture-to-sound translators.
