  • Come celebrate the 21st Annual Oceanside Día de los Muertos Festival on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Downtown Oceanside next to City Hall. Stop by to enjoy performances by: Ballet Folklórico de Fallbrook, Rubios, Calpulli, Danza de los Diablos, Catrina Contest, Sangre Mestiza Ballet Folklórico, Ballet Folklórico Tlaneci and Grupo Folklórico Herencia Mexicana. The altars, full of “ofrendas” (offerings), are the focal point to observe the Día de los Muertos. Each year the Por Siempre Car Club sponsors the car show with blessing of the cars at the festival. Several areas will be available in the venue that will allow you to do a memorial in chalk to a loved one. FREE: chalk will be onsite until supplies are gone. Participants are invited to join us at this weekend-long festival to set mindful intentions, tap into our creative expression, and create soulcare rituals that support our holistic well-being as we bring in the summer solstice. Our festival will feature BIPOC artists, wellness advocates, and healers who inspire the work we do here at Soultry Sisters. The will lead arts and wellness workshops centered around creative expression, collective healing, and mindful movement. This year we are asking each guest artist to create a workshop or performance in response to our festival theme, Cultivating a Sanctuary. Stay tuned to find out who we are featuring this year.   • Surfing Madonna Oceans Project is pleased to present “Ocean/Earth/Air” a juried art & poetry regional show about our beautiful, fragile and fascinating world. 100 artists from across California will be selected to showcase their work on the environmental theme during the month of April 2023 with the reception on Sunday, April 23 of Earth Day weekend from 1 - 4 p.m. There will be art and poetry award and poetry readings at the reception and a concert from the locally renown Mission Hills high school band “The Preservationists” fresh from their concert in Japan. Surfing Madonna Oceans Project wants to spread our message of hope and appreciation for the ocean and support the arts. We believe that creating art and public appreciation of art increases cognitive abilities and eases anxiety and depression in these difficult times. Art can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world. Surfing Madonna Oceans Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Encinitas, California and was officially formed in 2013 by Robert Nichols and Mark Patterson (artist of the Surfing Madonna mosaic).   • Join us every other month as OMA transforms itself into an artist’s studio with workshops and skill-building exercises led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas. Pointillism and Dot Paintings. Application of color based on color theory and spirituality combined. Inspired by world-renowned artists, contemporary practicing artists, and our own exhibiting artists, we will explore different media, techniques, and subjects you may find in a practicing artist’s studio. This full day workshop held from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. is meant to get you in the art-making groove and develop new approaches to seeing and creating artwork. Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us. *All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. A break for lunch and relaxed discussion will occur midday. Please bring your own bagged lunch or feel free to visit one of the restaurants close by on our provided list.
