Lori Mitchell will be conducting a live drawing demonstration, and Julia C R Gray will be giving a talk titled: Ocean Mystery in Ceramic Language, as well as conducting a live clay coral reef demonstration. The exhibition will present works by all 12 TWA group members, showcasing their individual visions of what “Turning Tides” means to them. As we head into a changed world, post-pandemic and with social and political shifts, these are expressions of hope during transition, of ways to move forward, of the force of the spirit and the resilience of nature. The works are in a range of media: from textiles to painting, ceramic and bronze sculpture to mixed media, and in many styles, from abstract to whimsical to realism. The group has been working and showing together for 6 years, and were recently featured at the Oceanside Museum of Art in an exhibition titled “Now.” Member artists also show individually, in galleries and museums on both coasts, and their work is held in corporate and private collections worldwide. Bring the family to Prebys Play Day on Free Second Sunday, March 12 to celebrate Biology Through Art and enjoy live music, games, and interactive STEAM installations created by artist-scientists in the community. Artist Sheena Dowling will also lead us in a DIY art activity inspired by artist Mely Barragan (Mexico, b. 1975) and Barragan’s piece "Black Light." Together, we will create multimedia mini paintings using collage and assemblage techniques while reflecting on visual metaphors of the human body.
