Calling all San Diegans and tennis enthusiasts! The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, located in the heart of La Jolla Shores, is set to host the prestigious IC Rod Laver Junior Tennis World Finals, scheduled for November 7 through November 11, 2023. This world renowned tennis competition will feature junior tennis talent from around the world, representing the following countries: Argentina, Italy, South Africa, India, Great Britain, and the United States. Each team is made up of two boys and two girls under 16, accompanied by their dedicated coaches. The tournament will feature spirited team matches, including boys' and girls' singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Utilizing a round-robin format, each team will play five matches, with the team boasting the best overall record crowned as the champion. As the holiday season approaches, Miracle Babies is delighted to announce their collaboration with San Diego Honda Dealers to bring joy to families in need. Together, they will be hosting a drive-thru baby essentials distribution on Tuesday, December 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the National City Public Library (1401 National City Blvd, National City, CA 91950). Registered guests will be able to receive care packages of essential items such as baby formula, baby blankets, board books, period products, and more. Registration is open through Monday December 4 at 12 p.m. or until supplies last. Miracle Babies is a nonprofit organization whose mission is dedicated to helping perinatal mothers and their families during their time of need by providing transportation, mental health assistance and supportive services. During the Covid-19 pandemic Miracle Babies recognized the financial strain essential items and diapers could pose on families in need. They have since supplied over 1.3 million diapers to families in San Diego and Orange County through their monthly diaper distributions. Distributions are open to all families not just those with babies in the NICU. Families in need of products should register online at the Miracles Babies website. Donations and volunteers are welcome and accepted at all distributions. Freddie’s Place Announces “Freddie’s Christmas Wish” Donation Drive for Shelter & Rescue Pets, along with a new Pet Ambulance & Transport Vehicle The funny little dog with the plush red ball & huge heart for his community is at it again! Freddie’s Place Animal Hospital + Urgent Care, in partnership with their sister charitable organization “A Favor for Freddie,” is rolling out a Nationwide Holiday Initiative to provide animals in shelters or rescues a brighter and Merrier Christmas. With more than 2 million animals in shelters at any time, and untold amounts with rescue organizations, Freddie’s Place has a very special ask from San Diego Pet families & people across the nation that love animals. “Freddie’s Christmas Wish” is a donation driven event requesting for blankets, treats, toys, & pet food from the community at large. Donations will be accepted at the Freddie’s Place Vista location thru December 30th. Several times during the month, the Freddie’s Place “Best Care Anywhere Team” will also be out and about at “Stuff the Ambulance” events. The more donations received, the more shelter and rescue pets have a toy, treat, or warm blanket to celebrate Christmas. To further clarity, the Best Care Anywhere Team at Freddie’s Place indicated “No donation is too small for this event. It’s a great way for anyone in our community to help these forgotten animals in need with whatever sized donation they can afford.” Since both of Freddie’s organizations have such a large network of friends reaching across the nation, they are welcoming anyone outside of the San Diego area to join in on this great cause by donating directly to a shelter or rescue of their choice near their home. The Valley Arts Festival is an annual celebration of the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians and the Luiseño history and culture, aiming to help support and celebrate the indigenous population that lived on the land we now known as Oceanside. AF aims to educate the community on the beauty and strength of this amazing culture. Each year a portion of proceeds from the festival is donated to the San Luis Rey Mission Indian Foundation for enrichment programs.
