  • Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is hosting a free Spirit of the Barrio webinar on the opioid epidemic led by their Chief of Psychiatry, Dr. Joe Sepulveda with an introduction from San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan. The purpose of the webinar is to discuss opioid use disorder, the science of addiction as a chronic brain disease, address the stigma behind opioid use and promote effective treatment strategies and harm reduction techniques.   • Join Solana Center for this two hour presentation where you will learn the basics of traditional composting and get an introduction to bokashi, a fermentation method that will enable you to compost all your food waste, including meat, dairy, and liquids. This “pre-composting” process uses an inoculant of effective microbes to preserve kitchen scraps until you’re ready to incorporate them into your soil or compost bin. Learn how bokashi can be used to increase your organic waste diversion and enrich your soil microbiome. All pre-registered attendees who are residents of unincorporated San Diego County will receive a free kitchen scraps container, courtesy of the County of San Diego.   • Meriwether Lewis, commander of the famed Lewis and Clark Expedition that explored the newly purchased Louisiana Territory from 1803-06, returned home from this perilous journey with every hope (as well as his country’s expectations) of a bright and productive future. Yet within three years, the 35- year-old Lewis was dead in a lonely inn along the Natchez Trace in rural Tennessee, the victim of two gunshots. This lecture by Drs. Dave and Marti Peck, based on their new book of the same title, will help shed light on the mysterious historical fate of this American icon.
