UC San Diego Music welcomes sound artist, researcher and composer Stefan Maier to the Conrad Prebys Music Center, Experimental Theater for a collaborative evening length work with faculty member Michelle Lou. The duo will present a structured improvisation on hardware and software electronics and spatialized audio.

The annual Sam Hinton Folk Heritage Festival celebrates the memory of Sam Hinton, the grandfather of folk music in San Diego County. Admission is free and all are welcome. There will be music on the gazebo, storytelling in the Porter House, and jam sessions of various flavors around the park. The Poway-Midland Railroad will be offering rides around the park for a nominal fee (which supports the nonprofit organization that runs and maintains the trains). Race and the Borderlands is a conference hosted by the Fred J. Hansen Peace Chair and the Center for Human Rights at SDSU that brings together scholars, practitioners, student organizations, and grassroots organizations from the San Diego and Tijuana regions to collectively consider issues of human rights and racialization in our borderlands. The conference will focus on the human tolls and triumphs that flow across this border every day. We will consider the hindrances and costs, the lives and human sacrifice, and the stories of hope and justice that intermingle in the liminal space of the borderlands. This binational conference will focus on scholarly collaboration, community building, and movement of ideas and people in the region. Enjoy this delightful family comedy written and directed by Soledad Escobedo and performed by the theater students of Tierra Caliente Academy with a special guest appearance by Fernando Bernal. From the San Diego Symphony: London’s The Kingdom Choir first attracted the world’s attention when they performed their show-stopping performance of "Stand By Me" in front of a world-wide television audience of over two billion at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May 2018. Since that famous day the Choir’s infectious joy and spirit, matched only by their raw Gospel spiritual style, has taken them around the world, including a debut North American tour in 2019 which took them to 29 cities including New York, Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.

This class is aimed for children of all backgrounds, ages 5-10. The class will involve art making and interpretation, based on the rich cultural heritage represented at Yiddishland. Children will be introduced to Yiddish cultural concepts and biographies of Jewish artists. The objective of this course is developing creativity, critical thinking, and appreciation of the arts.
