  • Step into the mysterious and the unknown at "The Veil Between," a group exhibition exploring the thinning of the veil between worlds—life and death, dreams and reality. Opening on October 11 from 6–10 p.m. at Distinction Gallery in Escondido, this event features original paintings, photography, drawings, and mixed media by visual artists from around the globe. Distinction Gallery has been a beacon for contemporary art in Southern California for more than twenty years. The opening reception will include live music, artists in attendance, and drinks available for purchase (21+) from Last Spot Bar, which offers a curated selection of wine, beer and cocktails.   • South Park to Host First Annual Halloween Dog Parade Community event invites local pups and their families to celebrate Halloween in costume South Park, San Diego South Park will be going to the dogs this Halloween as the neighborhood hosts its First Annual South Park Halloween Dog Parade on Friday, October 31. Local residents and dog lovers are invited to dress up their pups and join in a festive, family-friendly parade through the heart of South Park. The event kicks off with a meet-up at 4:45 p.m. on the grass area along 28th Street between Ash and A Street. At 5 p.m. sharp, the parade will begin, meandering through neighborhood streets and concluding at the South Park Dog Park. The parade is free and open to the public. Anyone with a costumed dog is welcome to join. Whether dressed as superheroes, spooky spirits, or silly characters, dogs of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to strut their stuff for the community to enjoy. Prior knowledge in printmaking and equipment familiarity is required as open studio time is not for learning a new printmaking process or one on one lessons. Students have the option to weave a basket, a pendant, or an ornament. Basket Weaving is a wonderful way to recycle from nature and is also a meditative activity. No experience necessary. From 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., this family-friendly celebration transforms the church grounds into a lively cultural experience filled with food, music, dance, and history. Guests arriving between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. will receive a complimentary dessert while supplies last, so early arrival is recommended! Serbian cuisine is known for its rich, bold flavors, and the festival is the perfect place to enjoy it all! Feast on roasted pork and lamb, savory burek (meat or cheese pastry), grilled cevapcici (minced sausages), sarma (stuffed cabbage rolls), flaky pita (apple and cherry pastries), palacinke (Serbian crepes), and rich baklava, with vegetarian favorites like musaka and sopska salata (similar to Greek salad) also available. Traditional Serbian folklore dancing brings the stage to life featuring award-winning performers from St. George’s Morava group and visiting ensembles from across Southern California. Two live Serbian bands will perform throughout the day, bringing to life centuries-old storytelling through music and keeping the celebration going late into the night. Families are especially welcome, with a kid zone featuring a playground, face painting, and fun to keep little ones entertained. Festival-goers can also tour the St. George Church for an unforgettable chance to experience the only church in North America fully adorned with breathtaking Venetian glass mosaics that cover the church’s entire interior. A Vespers service will be held at 6 PM, inviting guests to experience the beauty and depth of the Orthodox Christian tradition.
