Situated in the historic Logan Heights neighborhood of San Diego, BEST PRACTICE is a not-for-profit art gallery that promotes artists and curators whose work stimulates discourse. Our programming is rooted in the belief that compelling art poses more questions than answers, and that dignity, diversity, and equity are crucial to this commitment. For its first two years, BEST PRACTICE existed at two locations in San Diego — within an institutional glass-enclosed bulletin board housed within the Department of Art, Architecture + Art History at the University of San Diego, and on a Sony Trinitron video monitor installed at Helmuth Projects which screened video works to the street around the clock. In 2019, BEST PRACTICE opened its first gallery space on Kearney Avenue in Logan Heights where more than a dozen exhibitions and events took place. BEST PRACTICE relocated three city blocks in 2021 to its current space at Bread & Salt at 1955 Julian Avenue.

Hemlock Society of San Diego presents THE RIGHT-TO-DIE FILM FESTIVAL We will watch the movie "Still Alice" on-screen followed by a discussion led by Faye Girsh. Starring Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, and Kate Bosworth. Julianne Moore won the Oscar for best actress for her role as Dr. Alice Howland, a renowned linguistics professor who must cope with a devastating diagnosis: early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. As she struggles to hang on to her sense of self for as long as possible, Alice’s three grown children watch helplessly as their mother gradually disappears with each passing day. Jazz guitarist Peter Sprague leads his ensemble through a tour of Paul Simon’s sonic gems. Classics like “Cecilia,” “Hearts and Bones,” “Sound of Silence,” and “You Can Call Me Al” take on a new light with Sprague’s creative arrangements. The band features vocalist Allison Adams Tucker along with Tripp Sprague on sax, Rob Thorsen on bass, Duncan Moore on drums and Peter on guitar. Local San Diego guitarist Peter Sprague is known far and wide in the jazz and music community. He is an award-winning guitarist, producer, arranger, teacher, mentor, collaborator, and much more. He has been a guest artist on many records and has performed and toured with Chick Corea, Hubert Laws, Dianne Reeves, David Benoit, Sergio Mendes, and many others. In 2015, Peter was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award at the San Diego Music Awards. He continues to be active publishing music books, delivering online video courses, as well as producing music at his SpragueLand studio in Encinitas.

In her current series DOUBLE EXPOSURE, Cathy Cooper Scott explores the feeling of color and texture. These pieces are executed on glass with chunky strokes of oil and spray paint - with freedom to explore beyond the boundary of the frame. The DOUBLE EXPOSURE series broadly reflects aspects of a landscape aesthetic —real and imagined. Surrounded daily, living in Southern California, with stunningly vibrant, whimsical and breathtaking natural beauty, from the Pacific Ocean beaches to the high desert mountains, Cathy is inspired and motivated to capture her experience of nature.
