OnStage Playhouse is proud to present"A People’s Cuban Christmas Tale," a play written by Herbert Siguenza, who completely reimagined Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" into an epic Cuban historical drama. About the play: Ezequiel Scrooge is an American sugar baron caught up in the political upheavals of a country on the verge of revolution, its present and future. This retelling celebrates the Cuban people's desire for socialism and autonomy in the shadow of American economic interests. Lively classic Cuban music scores the tropical Christmas tale of a greedy man who finds personal redemption and a new social consciousness. The production includes 10 actors and a four-piece Cuban band bringing the traditional sounds of Cuba to this adaptation of a well-known story of Christmas loss and forgiveness. A People’s Cuban Christmas Tale opens Thursday, December 2 at 8 p.m. The play with be showing Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. from December 2 through December 19. Once Upon a Frame, a custom framing business and gallery space dedicated to bringing together local North County artists and San Diego residents, invites you to Face First, a solo show featuring painter Brady Willmott. Willmott’s pop surrealism is in dialogue not only with well-known movements like High Renaissance and Surrealism but also 1980s skateboard and New School tattoo styles of art. Jackalopes, rubber duckies, and even his childhood television make guest appearances in edgy compositions where technical virtuosity is paired with a heavy dose of humor. Dive in, his paintings say, but don’t take it all too seriously. The YWCA empowers adults and children to break the cycle of domestic violence and homelessness by helping survivors achieve self-sufficiency, providing access to critical resources each year to nearly 6,000 people. Now through December 7, San Diegans can drop off new, unwrapped gifts at designated bins, located at dozens of office buildings and businesses throughout San Diego.
