Students will create functional and nonfunctional ceramic art using a variety of techniques and their imaginations. Learn how to create with coils, slab construction and clay pinching methods. See the beauty of the final results as your pieces come out of the kiln. Students will create multiple pieces and learn how to glaze finished artwork. All materials included.   • Create a unique Bandsaw Box! In this one-day workshop, students will create a bandsaw box with a pivoting lid. Students will leave this workshop with a bandsaw box of their own and the skills to begin creating their own designs. In this class we will cover shop safety and use of the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, drill press, as well as various hand tools. In addition, we will cover the mixed media process of flocking. Students will also learn sanding best practices and how to achieve a perfect finish. We welcome all makers, from beginners to advanced. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring your own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. Students are welcome to bring a lunch or snack for a break mid-class. Woodworking for Women classes are designed to empower women & nonbinary individuals in a supportive and educational woodshop environment which is predominantly a masculine space. In this project-based series of classes, we will cover the properties of wood, machine safety, and techniques on various tools and machines. We will also introduce machine and hand-sanding as well as methods for finishing your piece.   • Fan favorite Peanuts is returning to San Diego Comic-Con, and they’re inviting you to celebrate 50 years of the Beagle Scouts with them, as well as the upcoming Apple TV+ series CAMP SNOOPY, with merchandise, a pop-up, panel, and more. In the Gaslamp, Peanuts will be setting up camp at 200 J. Street, Suite 105 for a "Camp Snoopy" and “Beagle Scouts” pop-up. Attendees will find plenty of activities, with bird spotting (how many Woodstocks and his fellow Beagle Scout bird friends can you spot?), learning how to read a Peanuts-themed compass, and a writing-letters home station (“Send cookies!”). The offsite will also feature merch, including an adorable Woodstock Youtooz plush, Pintrill pins of Snoopy and the Beagle Scouts; iron-on merit badges; a Snoopy canteen; a compass; a burritote (for keeping your burrito warm, of course!). And with prices ranging from $10 to $25, you can snag what you want while still saving some pennies for the booth merchandise. The pop-up will be open Thursday, July 20 – Sunday, July 23 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily. On the show floor of the Convention Center, you’ll find Peanuts at Booth #1635, where you’ll be a happy camper to discover Snoopy himself, making in-person appearances throughout the con.   • Have you ever wanted to create and tell your own story? Here is a workshop to learn how to choose, develop, craft and rehearse a story to tell in front of others. Are you interested in creating family stories, a story for your next staff meeting or telling folktales? Professional storytellers from Storytellers of San Diego will facilitate and guide you through this process, with tips, strategies and small group structure so you can practice. We'll start with some general instruction and then break into smaller groups by specific interest. Our style of storytelling is up close without notes--Moth-style.
