"Stories in Cloth: Communicating Through Textiles" is an exhibition presented by the La Jolla Historical Society in partnership with the Visions Museum of Textile Art. The show explores how textiles from around the world and throughout history have been used to communicate stories, identity, and shared experience. Focusing on three key themes—storytelling, activism and resistance, and cultural expression—the exhibition highlights historic and contemporary works, collaborations with local artists, and loans from institutions and artists. Stories in Cloth celebrates textiles as powerful tools for connection, creativity, and cultural expression. Featuring works by Charlotte Bird, Patricia Kelly, President of the San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild, Michelle Montjoy, Christine Lee, Maryam Bayat and Persian Place, Claudia Rodríguez-Biezunski of Sew Loka, and the Barona Cultural Center & Museum, this exhibition explores the stories, identities, and traditions expressed through cloth and textile art. Selections from the Visions Museum of Textile Art permanent collection further enrich the exhibition, creating a dialogue between contemporary makers and enduring textile traditions. Experience a transformative journey with "A Walk with Yáamay," a series of free, site-specific guided “art walks” presented by New Village Arts. Led by a council of Indigenous artists and curators, these immersive tours blend natural exploration with live poetry, song, visual art, and performance. Drawing inspiration from "Yáamay: An Anthology of Feminine Perspectives Across Indigenous California," this experience invites you to become part of the narrative. Every participant will be provided with a journal and pencil to capture personal reflections, sketches, and insights as the performance unfolds around them- as well as a copy of the anthology. The "A Walk with Yáamay" program is proud to partner with Queer Sol Collective, the poets of Yáamay, and local parks and recreation spaces to bring this experience to life.

The beach is calling! Fiesta del Sol returns to Fletcher Cove Beach Park for its 45th annual celebration, bringing a weekend of music, food, and family fun to Solana Beach. This free festival runs Saturday, May 30, 10 a.m.–10 p.m., and Sunday, May 31, 9 a.m.–8 p.m., and promises unforgettable performances against a stunning coastal backdrop. Headliners take center stage: The English Beat close out Saturday night with their iconic ska grooves, guaranteed to get the crowd dancing. Los Lobos bring their Grammy-winning mix of rock, blues, and Mexican folk for a soulful, high-energy performance. Fans can also enjoy Common Sense, whose California reggae vibes create the ultimate beachside soundtrack, and The McCharmlys, delivering heartfelt melodies and engaging showmanship. Join San Diego ART Matters and the San Diego County Arts & Culture Commission for the District 1 stop of the In Community series — a countywide initiative designed to bring together artists, cultural organizations, and creative partners through welcoming gatherings filled with conversation, collaboration, and inspiration. This event continues the series’ commitment to engaging communities across the region, including those in District 1 represented by Supervisor Paloma Aguirre. This District 1 gathering will take place at the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center on Tuesday, June 30, from 2– 4 p.m. The afternoon will be a relaxed and engaging gathering focused on connection and community. Guests will enjoy music and spoken word, along with opportunities to meet fellow artists, cultural leaders, and community partners from across the region.
