California will become the first state in the nation to require restaurants to disclose major food allergens on their menus starting in 2026

Kick off your weekend with us! Every Friday this summer (starting May 23), we're open until 10 p.m. so you can explore the Museum after hours. Enjoy access to all exhibitions, trivia in the Atrium at 7 p.m., and our rooftop deck for good views and great vibes. The rooftop is open to all visitors and serves beer, wine, non-alcoholic drinks and food from Wolf in the Woods—you can get a look at the menu below. With bars on several floors, sip a signature cocktail as you leisurely explore the Museum. Or grab some artisan tacos, conchas or paletas, and amazing coffee drinks from The Craft Taco in our Atrium. On select dates, enjoy getting crafty with our friends from Sketchparty (usually the third Friday of the month). Admission is half-price after 5 PM. Sage smudging with white sage (Salvia apiana) has become a viral trend. Metric tons of white sage have been poached to supply an international demand. This species is deeply rooted in the cultures and lifeways of the Indigenous communities of Southern California and northern Baja California, the only region where white sage naturally grows. Kevin Alison will discuss poaching of Dudleya species and efforts being taken to protect the plants and prevent their removal from the wild. Dudleya species (liveforevers) have been poached from mainland California and from Santa Catalina Island. Poachers have been caught stealing thousands of plants, shipping them internationally, and selling them as trendy houseplants for top dollar. Investigators now estimate that poachers have stolen several hundreds of thousands of Dudleya plants from California. In 2021 Governor Newsom signed the CNPS-sponsored AB 223 into law, providing important protection for California’s Dudleya species. Champions have argued the law will protect Jewish students from rising bullying and discrimination, sometimes from teachers. While the state does not collect data on antisemitism in schools, reports of anti-Jewish bias statewide have doubled between 2021 and 2024, according to the California Department of Justice. Last year, more than 15% of all hate crime events in California were anti-Jewish, even though Jewish people make up about 3% of the state population.
