If you love exciting activities such as building lunar habitats and listening to NASA guest speakers, this is the perfect camp for you! We will be offering this exciting camp twice, on June 30 and July 1. Recommended for students in grades 3-8. The Memphis Kings are a blues and roots band based in southern california. Originally formed over fifteen years ago with the intent to be a support band for touring musicians. The band’s sound has been influenced by the musicians they have supported. Over the years they have worked with California legends Lynwood Slim, James Harman, Big Jay Mc Neely, Big Sandy and Kid Ramos. They have also worked as the international musicians Nico Duportal, Si Cranstoun, and Paul Pigat to name a few. The band consists of drummer Ron Felton, bassist Jack O Roonie, and guitarist Tommy Harkenrider. The band often includes special guests for their shows. When available the Memphis Kings include Mando Dorame on Tenor Sax. Individually it’s members have performed nationally and internationally, and have respected recordings credits. Opening the show all the way from the UK are the Barrelhouse Kings’. These young multi-instrumental musicians perform traditional blues with authenticity. Join us Friday, June 30, where we will create an accordion-style artist’s book that brings together the previous projects as an artistic interpretation of an autobiography. Please bring your previous projects if you have attended multiple sessions. If this is your first session, you will create an accordion book that can be customized as a handmade photo album or journal. This workshop is part of Reflections, an eight-session workshop series designed to serve adults 55 and older. Learn from trained Museum educators about Contemporary art, and together with friends, share inspired connections and tell your personal story through art. Only 15 spots available. Then, implement 3D techniques to create a pop-up card. Participants may attend this single session and create standalone artwork, or attend multiple sessions. The artwork from this session can be added to a handmade artist’s book during the final session.
