Outside The Lens (OTL) is calling all young photographers, artists, and filmmakers to participate in Voice Out: A Youth Media Arts Exhibition, OTL’s annual juried art show celebrating youth narratives and their power to transform communities. OTL welcomes submissions from emerging artists ages 8-19 in the categories of photography, mixed media and short video/animation (under 30 seconds) that explore this year’s theme of “Change.” Applicants should submit a brief artist statement and digital file of their artwork between February 17 and March 16 deadline by visiting the “Voice Out” webpage. Save the date for May 3rd, when all entries will be displayed and celebrated at the “Voice Out” exhibition on May 3, 2025. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a survival skills aficionado, or simply curious about ancient craftsmanship, this class offers a unique opportunity to connect with a time-honored tradition. Children ages 8-12 will have the opportunity to explore how to shape clay as a creative medium. They will learn wheel throwing and hand-building techniques as well as glaze projects. With a main focus on functional pottery, beginner students will learn how to use the equipment in the studio and how to use the wheel while more advanced students will further use the wheel as a tool to create work made partially or entirely from thrown forms. All students will be encouraged to experiment with surface and altering techniques to transform their work from pots to functional works of art. Students will leave the class with finished work they can use at home that’s dishwasher safe!
