The Grauer School, an independent school in Encinitas focused on Learning by Discovery®, will be hosting an Open House event for prospective students and families between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024. During the event, attendees will enjoy a student-led tour of the campus and have the opportunity to meet some of the extraordinary students, teachers and parents. Shelter to Soldier is excited to announce its Inaugural Salute to Paws 5K and Gratitude Festival for Dogs on Saturday, November 16, at Naval Training Center (NTC) Park in Liberty Station (2455 Cushing Rd, San Diego, CA 92106). This fun-filled event aims to raise funds for Shelter to Soldier’s life-changing programs, which rescue dogs from local shelters and train them to become service animals for post-9/11 veterans suffering from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, Military Sexual Trauma, and other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences. The Front Arte y Cultura and Kilikili Project present “Don’t Look at Me” a video concert screening previously filmed at The FRONT Arte Cultura on the day of the solar eclipse, April 8th 2024. Kilikili is the brainchild of Lexi Pulido, birthed under her original jazz alternative quintet, now the psuedonym for ensemble variations of her original compositions. For this performance, Pulido worked alongside Katie Berns and Ryan Ebaugh to deliver arrangements of spoken word, powerfully-woven melodic play, and physically challenging, theatrical gestures. From the artist, "'Don’t look at me' liberates the artist from ego, bowing to the role as vessel over self." The event runs 5 - 7 p.m.The film itself lasts 30 minutes and will be preceded by a brief artist presentation beginning around 5:30 p.m. Following the film, attendees will be invited to partake in homemade rice krispies wrapped in the excess red plastic wrap she has used in multiple performances throughout 2024 as a symbol of shame, an invitation to "peel back the layers" of shame to access pleasure. Today is the Whispering Angel Celebrity Pickleball Tournament, hosted by NFL legend Drew Brees and chef and Food Network personality Catherine McCord. The event is returning as part of the Del Mar Wine & Food Festival to bring together celebrities, athletes, chefs, and hunger-relief supporters for an afternoon of pickleball for a good cause.
