  • This class meets weekly on Mondays, 3-4 times each month, from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Ages 6-12 years welcome! This 4-week, repeatable series is perfect for kids who love to make things! Children learn tool safety, and get acquainted with various woodworking hand tools and techniques. They learn about wood as a material, and how to properly glue, hammer nails, and use manual drills. The goal of this class is to build children’s confidence through woodcraft. The focus for younger children is creating patience, developing fine motor skills, material exploration, and safe, proper use of the tools. More mature students will increase their focus to include craftsmanship, and more challenging methods of building projects and problem-solving. We will work together in the same space, but age groups/projects will be divided into two groups based on age and level of maturity. This class uses mostly hand tools. We teach safe methods for sawing, drilling, and clamping wood in this class. We encourage children to disconnect from screen-time conversations and video game thinking during our time together. This is a time for children to slow down, figure out tools, how they work, and make functional objects with their own hands. Occasionally, we use a plug-in tool with students (like a drill press). These machines are used 1-on-1 with students and instructors. If you prefer your child not use plug-in tools, just let us know!

Becoming a Florist is a rotating workshop series built around the wide range of floral designs professional florists create for weddings, events, and retail work. Each month focuses on a core floral form—giving participants the opportunity to build real-world design experience across styles, scales, and applications. Throughout the series, you’ll learn professional florist approaches to mechanics, structure, flower care, and design decision-making, along with practical considerations like handling, transport, and longevity. This series is designed to support both arranging hobbyists and working florists looking to expand their technical skills and confidence. This month's topic: tall flower arrangements. • Rooted: A Workshop in Image and Language is an interdisciplinary workshop that invites participants to explore several avenues of their creativity through poetry, watercolor painting, and expressive writing. Moving between poetry, visual art, and personal narrative, the workshop creates an accessible and supportive space for creative expression without requiring prior experience. The session begins with a short poem and a prompt, followed by a brief free write. Participants then transition into painting a watercolor, led by Artful Minds, using simple, guided techniques that emphasize process over perfection. After painting, we will read a second poem and a prompt, and once again, participants will free write. If time allows, we will close the workshop by having those who would like to share one of their two writings read to the group. Participants will leave the workshop with two flash pieces and a completed watercolor painting. Please bring a notebook and writing instrument; all painting tools and materials will be provided along with water and snacks. San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram

  • What makes a character unforgettable? It’s rarely a detailed history. More often, it’s what they notice, what they refuse to say, the objects they keep, and the choices they make. In this two-hour generative workshop, we’ll explore how character emerges through scene, dialogue, gesture, and image rather than exposition. Through close reading, guided discussion, and writing prompts, participants will learn how to reveal emotional depth without relying on lengthy backstory or explanation. Writers will leave with practical techniques for creating nuanced, believable characters and at least one new draft. San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram
