Grand opera is coming to the California Center for the Arts in Escondido in July! Giacomo Puccini’s one-act masterpiece "Il Tabarro", Italian for "The Cloak", is a dramatic story of love, jealousy, and betrayal. Set aboard a river barge in Paris at the turn of the century, the soul-stirring melodies will transport you to a foggy night of deception and death. "Il Tabarro" is the least-performed of the three operas in Puccini’s triple-bill Il Trittico (The Triptych). While companies frequently mount double bills of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, they usually overlook "Il Tabarro", the first opera Puccini composed in the trio. In just one hour, you’ll be spellbound by the beauty and power of this music, whether you’re a devoted opera fan or a first-timer. That’s just half of the program, though. After the intermission, you’ll see the same story told in a completely different way: through neoclassical ballet. Featuring original choreography, this brand new adaptation of "Il Tabarro" reverses the narrative as the characters are now silent, speaking only through mesmerizingly expressive movements. This time, you’ll hear the same amazing orchestrations but without any vocal parts. Cinballera’s founders, dramatic coloratura soprano Tiffany Brannan and prima ballerina Rebekah Brannan, will be trading off as the leading lady in the opera and ballet, leading a talented cast of international performers and local professionals. "Il Tabarro" is presented in collaboration with the Temecula Valley Symphony, with Maestro John Mario Di Costanzo conducting. In this six-week course, students will explore the fundamentals of 3D design while working hands-on with clay. Students will learn how to transform a lump of clay into a variety of forms, learning pinch, coil, and slab building, and creating a final project that showcases their skills. Ceramics offers a multi-sensory learning experience that supports different learning styles and encourages problem-solving, fine motor development, and confidence through experimentation and revision. Along the way, students will also strengthen collaboration, critical thinking, and an appreciation for creativity, culture, and community. Preparing the studio for "Echoes of the Vast" — the first installation and soft launch of Earth / House / Hold. Beginning with my own paintings is a way of establishing the space’s curatorial language and presence before future exhibitions and invited artists. Earth / House / Hold is an artist-run curatorial platform devoted to the slow encounter between work, material, land, time, and the wild conditions that shape perception and place. My work explores how landscapes absorb time, memory, and traces of passage through layered material processes that respond to shifting conditions, rather than depicting something fixed. Growing up between Southern California and Arizona, I remain drawn to vast arid landscapes where erosion, accumulation, atmosphere, light, and surface carry history forward. I studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, NY with Alice Aycock and Shirley Irons, and later received an MFA from The Claremont Colleges - Claremont Graduate University and an MA in Arts Management from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management in Claremont, California. My work is held in public and private collections across the United States.
