  • Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was a Surrealist Mexican painter, known for her vibrant colors, unflinching self-portraits, works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico, and her celebration of its indigenous culture. In this lecture, Professor of Humanities Gwenyth Mapes will look at her life and some of her art. Dr. Mapes is a Professor of Humanities at Grossmont College and taught as an Assistant Professor of Humanities at the University of Montana in Missoula.

A three-time San Diego Music Awards winner of Best Hip Hop/Soul Artist in 2013 and Best Hip Hop/Soul Album in 2014 and 2017, The Lyrical Groove credits their success and appeal to their artists’ community engagement. Lauren is actively involved as an organizer in political and civic advocacy efforts, and Dial is a practice coach training human service leader professionals. He attended Harvard University on a Marine Corps ROTC Scholarship and while serving in Desert Storm was ordered to write jokes for his Colonel. Arriving in Hollywood, James began to perform at LA’s major comedy venues and soon popped up on television, commercials, and in small films. James brings his 25+ years in comedy to the OTC for a night of Stand Up, so come on out for laughs with JPC and some of SD finest comics!
