in^set is a flexible chamber ensemble founded in 2018 by David Aguila (trumpet), Teresa Díaz de Cossio (flute), and Ilana Waniuk (violin), dedicated to creation, improvisation, and experimentation. Committed to expanding instrumental practice beyond the confines of contemporary classical music, in^set explores the sonic and visual possibilities of everyday objects, hacked electronics, graphic notation, and hybrid media. "Traces in Sound and Light" is a program that traverses the spaces between acoustic and electronic, composed and improvised, visual and sonic. Featuring works by Nathan Haering, Melissa Vargas Franco, and in^set members Aguila, Díaz de Cossio, and Waniuk. The concert culminates in the premiere of a new work by Jacques Zafra. The Coronado Library is thrilled to announce that children's author Mac Barnett ("Triangle." "Sam and Dave Dig a Hole," "Mac Undercover"), will appear in person on Tuesday, May 20! Starting at 3:30 p.m., Mac will be at the library to meet fans and sign books. At 4 p.m., he will share picture book favorites and showcase the deeply impactful ways picture books blend words and illustrations, and even the turning of a page, to create a uniquely powerful reading experience. Mac will share his passion for picture books and invite children and adults alike to join him in celebrating what’s vibrant, joyful and inspiring about this quintessential – and highly participatory – American art form at this all ages and family friendly event. We were selected with the with the Coronado Unified School District as one of five libraries in the country that Mac would appear at in his role. As the only library West of the Rio Grande, we are thrilled to host Mac's only public appearance in Coronado for this tour. Each year, Barnett will visit only five locations as National Ambassador. Coronado selected out of 350 applicants for this honor and is his only site visit this school year and the very first one of his tour! Explore natural dye color! Sunday, June 1, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. In this 2-hour workshop, explore eco-bundle dye, the art of infusing natural pigments onto fibers. Join fiber artist Jeanine Ertl and share in the ephemeral, mindful and magical beauty of this serendipitous dye process. You will learn about the gentle, fleeting nature of a diverse array of botanical and kitchen dyes while completing the process from start to finish—mordanting bundling, steaming and finishing. Each student will create two unique silk or cotton squares or scarves. Colors will shift and change before your eyes as you place natural dyestuffs, steam, unroll, and enjoy! And while bundles steam, we will talk about exploring the potential dyes in our homes, gardens and local area. Students are welcome to bring in their favorite flowers to explore using in your bundle. Each participant will leave with a booklet on the Eco-Bundle Dye process and two bundle dyed pieces. Ages 12+ years welcome, or 8+ years with an adult.
