Join us for a solo exhibition by artist Kate Kennedy, curated by Thumbprint Gallery and presented in the front main gallery space at Distinction Gallery, opens on Saturday, August 8, at 317 E. Grand Ave., Suite A, Escondido, CA 92025. The opening reception will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. as part of the monthly Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Escondido, a community-wide celebration of local galleries, museums, and creative spaces. The evening will feature live music, with drinks available for purchase from Last Spot Bar, located inside the Distinction Gallery arts complex. The exhibition presents a new body of figurative works by Kennedy, whose practice spans representational drawing and painting. Her vivid colors and delicate lines are a sight to behold! Since 2009, Thumbprint Gallery has built a reputation throughout Southern California for championing artwork that blends the offbeat, contemporary, and surreal. The gallery has become known for its strong curatorial voice and history of introducing emerging artists to wider audiences. This year, we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, our nation’s birth certificate and mission statement. Union Tribune columnist and International Punster of the Year, Richard Lederer, will talk about the significance of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. With more than 60 books to his name, including the exceptional Anguished English series, Dr. Lederer has a unique ability to make language both enlightening and fun. Dr. Lederer is also the founding co-host of the popular KPBS program, "A Way With Words." A recipient of the prestigious Toastmasters International Golden Gavel award, Dr. Lederer will be sure to leave you laughing and learning. Thirty French horns gather at dusk near La Jolla Project — and the results are nothing short of elemental. The French horn carries centuries of outdoor heritage in its bell: born on the hunt, perfected in the concert hall, and here, finally, set free again under open sky. As the sun sets over UCSD’s Stuart Collection, Hornswoggle transforms the iconic LA Jolla project into a landscape of pure resonance. Thirty players spread across the grounds, their instruments' long, curling bells catching the last light as they send waves of sound rolling across the open air — hunting calls and fanfares, folk songs and chorales, music that feels as ancient and alive as the landscape itself. This is the feral beauty of the horn in its element: not confined to a stage, but dispersed, echoing, surrounding.
