Blue Star Families is launching a program Friday that allows members of the military, their families, and veterans a chance to catch a show at their local theaters for free or at a discounted rate. Almost two dozen theaters across the country have already signed on to participate in the Blue Star Theatres program.

More than 10 years after the Agriculture Department promised to compensate black farmers for discrimination, some 70,000 of them have yet to be paid. Many of these farmers plan to be in Washington on Monday to ask the government to pay up.

His new book, Dissident Gardens, follows three generations of an activist family, from Rose, a secular Jew and communist, to Sergius, her commune-raised grandson. The book is fiction, but its characters were inspired by Lethem's own family story.
