Directed by Dim Sum & Jazz returning artist, Lorelei Garner, and MBHS Music Director JP Balmat, Mission Bay High School returns to Golden Island Dim Sum & Asian Cuisine for the 149TH session of Dim Sum & Jazz! MBHS will be featuring two of it's jazz groups - Mission Swing, and the award winning Preservationists! About Mission Bay High School | Mission Bay High School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School that offers a wide variety of music courses as well as a rigorous academic course load. From Concert Band to Orchestra, Jazz to Choir, Mission Bay has something for every music student! 2020 NAMM Award recipient for “Best Communities for Music Education,” the MBHS Music Program includes entry level classes for winds, strings, percussion and vocalists. Our advanced ensembles include multiple year-long jazz ensembles that meet during the school day as well as our Symphony Orchestra, MB’s elite classical ensemble. Ensembles like the Preservationists, Swing Choir, Mambo Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra give students a cross-cultural experience they will not find anywhere else.

About Lori Bell | Brooklyn native Lori Bell is a flutist and composer of admirable depth and broad musical sympathies. A resident of San Diego, she has contributed to the development of higher standards of performance while earning acclaim from both peers and critics for her artistry on stage and in recordings. Bell plays with confidence and taste, with a proclivity toward the more subtle means of emotional expression. Her playing inherently has a many-layered depth that reveals a more meaningful art. She renders ballads with exceptional sensitivity while bringing wonderful nuances to swing and be-bop, which she plays with power, agility and a natural élan. Her phrasing, evocative of birds, shows the strong influence of Eric Dolphy, yet is rendered with such purity of tone and range of timbre that it is clearly of a different ornithology. Enjoy sensory-friendly quiet hours at the Museum of Us on Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Museum remains open to the public during this time, and all are welcome to visit the Museum. During this time, specific exhibit features in the main Museum building are turned off to minimize audio and visual stimulation. Noise-blocking headphones are free for check-out at the main Admissions Desk and entrance to the “Cannibals: Myth & Reality” exhibit. Exhibit features in the Cannibals exhibit will remain on, and all exhibits will be fully turned on at 11:00 a.m. Admission purchased during sensory-friendly quiet hours is the same as standard admission and applies to the entire day. About Eric Evans | The Eric Evans Project is a collaboration of talented musicians that produce original pop/smooth jazz music. This collaboration features Eric Evans who is a multi-woodwind instrumentalist. He plays flute, alto flute, EWI, (a unique sounding electronic woodwind instrument that can play many sounds) and alto sax. Eric has had the privilege of being a featured performer Concert Venues, Jazz Festivals and as a music director for numerous churches. He has produced Three previous CD's including his third “Waves of Grace” with Singer/Songwriter David Eugene Ivey.
