Congress has eliminated federal funding for public media. It is heartbreaking that after decades of outstanding public service by more than 1,000 public media stations in all corners of the United States, the federal investment in American communities has disappeared.

Federal funding represented $4.3 million of KPBS’ annual budget. We are fortunate to be in a strong financial position that will allow us to keep serving San Diego, but the long-term loss of funding will negatively impact us and influence the plans we have for the future.

As your local public media station, KPBS is an essential, front-line, public service accountable to you. Our goal is to empower San Diegans to make informed decisions to build, celebrate and grow as individuals, families and communities. We do this by providing trusted, balanced and insightful news, and educational and entertaining stories and events that reflect the voices and aspirations unique to our region. To do this, we need the support of our community more than ever. We will make it through this challenge because of you.

Front Porch Gallery presents "Tiny Creative Habits: Celebrating Life in the Everyday" During 2024 through multiple art making programs, we invited the community to uncover the profound impact of small changes on a path to fulfillment. We asked them to discover how inventing in tiny habits of creativity can enrich lives and lead to significant transformation. Explore the magic that occurred when ordinary moments were ignited with creative sparks and experience a gallery full of the resulting creations of the community. Throughout the year Front Porch Gallery worked with partners to implement meaningful, arts-based workshops to produce this exhibition. This interactive program served as a platform for every participant, regardless of their age or abilities, to create, share and connect through art. The results are spectacular! A Museum on Wheels: The Office of Collecting & Design Hits the Road! The Office of Collecting & Design, an enchanting museum of lost and forgotten objects, is taking its beloved collection on tour! Known as a "nostalgia machine," this interactive traveling museum invites visitors to step inside a 42-foot wonderland of drawers, boxes, and cabinets filled with carefully curated curiosities. Guests can explore the space at their own pace or engage in hands-on experiences like a scavenger hunt or a flatlay photography session. Each stop on the tour features collaborations with local artists and creative spaces, ensuring a fresh and immersive experience in every city. The journey kicks off in San Diego with a special partnership between the Office and ArtReach San Diego. From April 17–19, the mobile museum will be open outside ArtReach’s Hillcrest studio, welcoming guests (adults only) during the nonprofit’s daily hours. Visitors can also enjoy Mini Visits during ArtReach’s 21+ Art Party on April 18 (tickets to the Art Party required), while families and young artists can participate in a specially designed workshop inside ArtReach’s studio on Saturday, April 19. The Trump administration is lowering the threshold to report money transfers to foreign countries. The Treasury Department says the new rule is needed to combat money laundering from Mexican drug cartels. Critics say it violates privacy and civil liberties.

On Friday, July 25, Songwriter Sanctuary will host a special edition performance of its monthly series in celebration of Disability Pride Month featuring artists with lived experiences and/or deep ties to the disability community, including Espi Love, The Bella Lunas, and Miranda Ramos with Dylan Razwick. About the Artists Miranda Ramos: (accompanied by Dylan Razwick): Two-time 2024 Best of San Diego Winner in the categories of Best Country Musician & Singer/Songwriter and 2025 San Diego Music Award Nominee Miranda Ramos is a one of a kind artist who believes that a song isn't just sung, it must be performed. Drawing inspiration from her County and Rock roots, Miranda's songwriting is honest and relatable. She performs with her full band, as an acoustic duo or trio covering top 40 music and originals in the county genre with some pop, rock, and alternative hits thrown in (because why not?), and is the lead female vocalist in ALT2K San Diego's Premier Alt Rock Cover Band. The Bella Lunas: Kismet brought The Bella Lunas together in San Diego, California in 2022 and the vibrant trio immediately bonded over their love of music, creativity and American Sign Language. Rhea, a versatile singer-songwriter and ASL Interpreter, showcases her powerful, raw musical talent and exceptional vocals. Sheena, a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult), brings her velvety vocals and passion for perfectly blended harmonies. Lily, a Deaf artist, wowed the other ladies with her unique ASL rhythmic renditions of visual music. Rhea and Sheena's voices and instruments blend together in angelic harmonies, weaving intricate patterns of sound that captivate audiences. Yet it is Lily, a Deaf artist and performer, who introduces a completely new dimension with American Sign Language. They are graceful together with the music as it creates a mesmerizing experience you can see, hear, and feel. Espi Love: Espi Love is a local poet who residing on traditional Kumeyaay land (San Diego, CA). They're also a vocalist, actress, model, and competitive dancer, and crochet artist. Espi believes in art as a form of not only creative expression but protest, resistance, whimsy in a world that tells us to leave our playfulness behind. The Coronado Library is thrilled to announce that children's author Mac Barnett ("Triangle." "Sam and Dave Dig a Hole," "Mac Undercover"), will appear in person on Tuesday, May 20! Starting at 3:30 p.m., Mac will be at the library to meet fans and sign books. At 4 p.m., he will share picture book favorites and showcase the deeply impactful ways picture books blend words and illustrations, and even the turning of a page, to create a uniquely powerful reading experience. Mac will share his passion for picture books and invite children and adults alike to join him in celebrating what’s vibrant, joyful and inspiring about this quintessential – and highly participatory – American art form at this all ages and family friendly event. We were selected with the with the Coronado Unified School District as one of five libraries in the country that Mac would appear at in his role. As the only library West of the Rio Grande, we are thrilled to host Mac's only public appearance in Coronado for this tour. Each year, Barnett will visit only five locations as National Ambassador. Coronado selected out of 350 applicants for this honor and is his only site visit this school year and the very first one of his tour!
