Today we will focus on the "pursuit of Happiness" portion of the Declaration of Independence as we speak to the author of "The Politics of Happiness." Should governments focus as much on "gross national happiness" as they do on the gross domestic product? How can governments assess happiness? And, what can be gained from having a happier populace?

Rescue workers in southwestern Bangladesh are searching for survivors of Cyclone Sidr. At least 3,113 people are known dead and more than 1,000 are missing, said Lt. Col. Main Ullah Chowdhury, an army spokesman.

The president said his administration will do everything possible to spur job creation after the U.S. unemployment rate climbed to the highest rate in years. A Labor Department report said employers cut 263,000 jobs last month. The largest job losses were in construction, manufacturing, retail trade and government.

Marcel Marceau, the French mime who was often described as bringing poetry to silence, died Saturday at age 84. A tireless performer for more than half a century, Marceau repopularized the ancient art of pantomime for a modern age.
