Elevate your floral skills with this flower arranging workshop designed for students ready to build on the fundamentals. If you have some beginner floral experience (or you’ve taken our Flower Arranging 101 class), this engaging intermediate workshop is the next step to grow your skills. We’ll review the essentials of flower arranging before moving into more refined approaches to design. This class emphasizes curated color palettes and intentional flower placement, while introducing techniques florists use to manipulate shape, scale, and visual impact. Working at a smaller scale with premium seasonal blooms allows for greater focus on detail, refinement, and composition. Every workshop is unique! Take one as a stand-alone experience, or enroll in multiple classes as part of a year-long design journey. This class is structured to support continued growth while remaining accessible, with guidance tailored to your experience level. No prerequisites required to enroll, but we highly recommend taking Flower Arranging 101 before enrolling in this workshop.   • Pacific Coast Harmony (PCH) will present “Waves of Harmony,” a show of modern four-part a cappella harmony music on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Schulman Auditorium at Carlsbad City Library, located at 1775 Dove Lane. The music spans the Great American Songbook, Broadway theater and film, popular songs, and beyond. A highlight of the show will be a special appearance by the San Diego Chorus, an International award-winning treble chorus. They will be competing at the fall 2026 SingUnited International Quartet and Chorus Competition (Sweet Adelines.) Selected quartets will also perform and there will be a basket drawing. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and can be purchased by emailing treasurer@PacificCoastHarmony.org.   • Create your own pine needle and juncus reed medallion. Participants will be taught how to identify and prepare the crafting material as well as how to bring those items together using the coil weaving method, a traditional Kumeyaay basketry technique. This method is one of the cornerstones of Kumeyaay culture and craftsmanship, serving as the foundation for storage baskets, food-processing trays, baby cradles, and many other woven items used in daily traditional life. All supplies and light refreshments are included. Ages 13+. About the Instructor: Haawka! Neve Luna is a Kumeyaay descendant and San Diego native who grew up on the San Pasqual Reservation in Valley Center, California. She received her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Oregon and now works at the San Diego Archaeological Center as the Tribal Outreach Coordinator. Neve develops Indigenous-based educational programs to strengthen the Center’s engagement amongst Tribal youth and other diverse communities. With every project, lecture, or community partnership, Neve is dedicated to preserving the culture of the Kumeyaay People while inspiring local residents to appreciate San Diego’s rich history. The heart of the Athenaeum’s School of the Arts is our faculty, whose knowledge and expertise embrace all aspects of fine art. In this exhibition of our teaching artists’ current work, viewers will enjoy the broad range of mediums and techniques that characterize our faculty’s versatility, from painting to book arts, printmaking, ceramics, illustration, painting, and beyond. Their dedication to lifelong learning and exploration continues to inspire students who take classes in both our Logan Heights and La Jolla studios. The Faculty & Staff Exhibition reflects the Athenaeum’s ongoing commitment to fine arts education and its role as a vibrant cultural hub in San Diego’s art community. In addition to faculty, members of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library staff who are artists are also presenting their work, reflecting the shared creativity and passion for the arts that infuse every part of our organization.
